Ted Lapidus was a French fashion designer renowned for his unisex style, safari themes, and popularizing blue jeans in mainstream fashion. He founded his brand in 1951 and later ventured into fragrances in the 1970s through a partnership with L'Oreal. The fragrance license later moved to the Jacques Bogart Group in 1983, which acquired the Ted Lapidus brand in 1995. While the haute couture division ended in 2000, Ted Lapidus fragrances continue to be produced. Â
Ownership: The fragrance license is currently held and managed by the Jacques Bogart Group.
Here are three popular fragrances of Ted Lapidus:
Lapidus Pour Homme (1987): This is a classic oriental fragrance for men with top notes of pineapple, lavender, artemisia, juniper berries, basil, lemon, and bergamot. Middle notes include honey, incense, pine tree, rose, Brazilian rosewood, jasmine, caraway, orris root, lily-of-the-valley, and petitgrain. The base notes feature tobacco, patchouli, oakmoss, amber, sandalwood, musk, tonka bean, and cedar. It's known for being a strong, masculine fragrance with a sweet and sometimes described as "dirty" scent, representing 80s excess. Â
Rumba (1989): A women's fragrance described as rich, intense, robust, and powerful, suitable for everyday wear, especially in autumn and winter. Some listed notes include cinnamon, passion fruit, carnation, and jasmine.
Creation (1984): This Eau de Toilette for women has top notes of honey, neroli, cassis, and orris. The middle notes consist of carnation, tuberose, rose, and jasmine, while the base notes include moss, patchouli, amber, and musk. Another description lists fruity top notes of mango, passion fruit, bergamot, peach, lemon, and mandarin, a floral heart of gardenia, jasmine, tuberose, daffodil, rose, and ylang-ylang, and a base of amber, musk, sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli, and vanilla.
